On Monday, September 9 Ryan joined long-time letter-turner, Vanna White, for his debut on Wheel of Fortune as he takes on the coveted role after Pat’s retirement in June. Many fans were devastated to hear the talented television personality was stepping away from the role after four decades on the gameshow, with many still calling for his return.

As he took the stage, Ryan acknowledged his new position and how fortunate he felt to have the chance to take on the role as Pat’s successor. He said: “Hosting Wheel of Fortune is a dream job. I’ve been a fan of this show since I was a kid watching it in Atlanta with my family…And I’m just so grateful to be invited in. I also know I’ve got some very big shoes to fill.”

As the duo shared the stage for the season 42 premiere, many fans took to X, formerly Twitter airing out their thoughts on Ryan’s first-ever apperance. The former American Idol host was met with dozens of reviews from viewers and while some rang high praises for his seamless introduction, others had a harder time adjusting to the switch-up.

But others were less-than-thrilled over the change and aired out their grievances with Ryan’s first episode. I feel like I’m watching one of the international editions they have look-ins to at times.” While another simply posted: “Ryan Seacrest is boring.”

Others shared the same complaint as they didn’t like a minor change in the show as Ryan was seen with no notecards. One user wrote: “My other nitpick is so silly, but Ryan not holding cards feels so awkward. Does he really memorize the contestants’ personal anecdotes? Is there a teleprompter or cue cards off screen?” Another viewer also picked up on style change as they added: “Ryan isn’t doing bad in the debut. He had to study a lot and must of memorized the show to do it without cards. He is bringing energy. The new set is good. Pat had 40 years of practice.”
