Reba McEntire’s heartbreaking confession to Garth Brooks revealed
Reba opened up to Garth in recent chat
© Gregg DeGuireMother’s Day may be next month, but Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks remind us that we can celebrate our mothers every day.
The two country music legends recently sat down for an intimate conversation, discussing Reba’s upcoming book and album “Not That Fancy,” along with life’s joys and challenges, including her success in the music industry and the loss of her mother to cancer in 2020.
The interview felt more like a heart-to-heart between old friends than a media event.
Reba and Garth, who toured together in the late nineties, have remained close friends and fans of each other’s work.
Garth praised Reba for her recent concert debut at New York’s Madison Square Garden, saying: “You’re an icon, you’re a legend, but you’re also an ambassador of country music.”
Despite just finishing a tour, Reba shows no signs of slowing down. Both her “Not That Fancy” book and album are set for release in October.
In an interview with Today, she described the book as a fun collection of recipes, stories, and never-before-seen photos, sharing insights into her family, faith, and friendships.
Garth, who wrote the forward for Reba’s memoir, asked her about the decision to start her book with a tribute to her mother.
The star explained that both she and Brooks were fortunate to have loving, supportive mothers who are greatly missed. She credited her own mother for encouraging her and her siblings to sing and pursue their musical dreams.
Reba recalled a moment when her mother advised her to find her unique voice, rather than imitating her idol, Dolly Parton. “Mama got on to me one day when I was sitting there playing my guitar, playing a Dolly Parton song. She said:’Reba, quit trying to sing like Dolly. There’s a Dolly already. You gotta be Reba.'”
She also opened up about “7 Minutes in Heaven,” a single from her upcoming album dedicated to her mother.
She shared how she knew she wanted to record the song after hearing it for the first time, but struggled to sing it in the studio due to the emotions it stirred.
“I couldn’t sing it in the studio probably for the first two or three times through, I got so choked up. Because if I had 7 minutes in heaven, I know exactly what I’d do. I would pass by all the formal introductions and go find Mama.”
