‘The Price Is Right’ Makes a Major Change After 50 Years On Air
The Price Is Right set is getting a shakeup after five decades on television.
Starting next season, fans will see the long running game show air from a brand new location, leaving behind the Los Angeles famed Television City studio, which they’ve called home since the relaunch premiere in 1972.
According to Deadline, the move comes ahead of a planned $1.25 billion renovation at the Television City complex, forcing the game show to relocate to Haven Studios, a new facility in nearby Glendale. Fremantle, the producer of the CBS show, is an investor with a long-term lease.
Hackman Capital Partners bought Television City for $750 million from CBS Corp. in 2019. Other shows on the compound include The Late Late Show with James Corden, which is coming to an end in the spring.
The outlet reports that other productions, including on daytime soap The Young and the Restless, reality competitions Dancing with the Stars and American Idol, and Real Time with Bill Maher are all working to solidify moving arrangements, with Wayne Brady’s Let’s Make a Deal also moving to Haven.
“In light of Hackman Capital Partners’ plans to undergo a major renovation at Television City, the time has come to move television’s longest running game show, The Price Is Right, into a new home,” Suzanne Lopez, COO of Fremantle, said in a statement.
She continued: “While we bid a fond farewell to this cultural landmark, we are excited to say that we will be moving into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility at Haven Studios. We can’t wait to have our fans ‘Come On Down’ to this new facility when we begin production on the next season this summer.”
The Price Is Right studio has been a popular tourist stop since its inception in 1972 with host Bob Barker, who later handed over hosting reins to Drew Carey in 2007. Prior to Barker’s version, an earlier show aired from 1956 through 1965 on NBC and later ABC with host Bill Cullen.
