The Backstreet Boys and Westlife have joined forces in a 90s boyband heaven, albeit virtually. The two groups, who were both very successful in their own right, appeared last week as part of a virtual concert on WeChat, a Chinese instant messaging service.
The ‘Quit Playing Games’ singers hosted a two-hour show on the streaming service, with around 45 million users tuning in, which involved the 90s Irish band joining The Backstreet Boys for two classic songs.
Much to the fans’ delight, the groups performed Westlife’s Number 1 single ‘My Love’ and Backstreet Boys’ 1999 hit ‘I Want It That Way’ together.
After the livestream, The Backstreet Boys took to Twitter to thank their fans saying: ‘Huge thank you to all of our amazing fans in China for making this happen! We can’t wait to come see you all in person real soon!’
Westlife also shared their thanks to their fans on Twitter saying: ‘What a moment it was getting to sing I Want It That Way along with @backstreetboys! Thank you again to @WeChatApp for having us and to all our Chinese fans that joined the livestream concert We hope that you all enjoy it too’.
