On the eve of Pat’s final episode of Wheel of Fortune, fans took to a Reddit page dedicated to the show to share their ideas about how the 77-year-old can stay in power.

“I was thinking…what if Pat went on celebrity wheel of fortune as a contestant after he retires,” the thread began.

“He should do that and pretend to forget that he had retired and try to take the host’s position as a gag,” a second person replied.

Others expressed their sadness over Pat’s exit.

“I am truly sad. It’s the end of an era!” someone wrote.

Fans have been open about their apprehension about Ryan, 49, trying to fill Pat’s shoes.

‘NOT A FAN’

In another Reddit thread, Wheel of Fortune fans discussed the changes ahead.

Several appeared dissatisfied with Pat’s replacement.

“Seacrest is an interesting replacement choice. Will be strange seeing him on the show for some time,” one fan wrote.

“Seacrest is everyone’s replacement,” a second viewer responded.

Wheel of Fortune fans label ‘busy’ Ryan Seacrest a ‘bad fit’ as they have a ‘better’ replacement in mind
“If you say ‘generic inoffensive white guy’ into a mirror three times, Ryan Seacrest appears,” yet a third commented.

Other fans speculated that Ryan would be quick to exit Wheel of Fortune.

“Yes, I’m not a fan. Born in the 90s it was [Alex] Trebek, Pat, and Bob Barker my entire childhood. And I feel like Ken [Jennings] and Drew [Carey] are in it for the long haul. I wouldn’t be surprised if Seacrest is out in like 5 years. I want some commitment damn it!” one viewer critiqued.

“Of course Seacrest will be out, that’s his catchphrase. Seacrest! Out!!!” a second replied.

Wheel of Fortune Host Timeline

Although Pat and Vanna have been a staple on the game show for decades, there have been other hosts

Chuck Woolery was the host from 1975 to 1981

He co-hosted alongside Susan Stafford (1975 to 1982)

Vanna White then stepped in as hostess in 1982 and has been ever since

After a contract and salary dispute, the show got rid of Chuck and brought in Pat in 1982

Pat hosted with Susan for one season

He then left the game show in 1989 to host a late-night talk show for CBS

For five months, NFL player Rolf Benirschke took his place

In July 1989, Bob Goen hosted the show on CBS

He hosted for a year and a half until the show was canceled in 1991

The show was then moved to ABC with Pat and Vanna hosting for the foreseeable future

In 2023, Pat announced his retirement and Ryan Seacrest as quickly named as his replacement

STAYING POSITIVE

Amid the backlash over his hosting abilities, Ryan has been focused on the positive.

The TV and radio personality shared a post praising his abilities as a host.

On Wednesday, the podcast host shared a post from American Idol’s official account on his Instagram Stories.

The post dubbed him the “best host.”

The Story showed three pics of Ryan alongside various Idol contestants from different seasons.

“Thanks to the best host @RyanSeacrest for another year of love & laughs!!” the post stated.

Ryan added, “Such an incredible season.”

Days prior, Wheel of Fortune fans slammed him, calling him a “bad fit” for the show.

Ryan was the topic of conversation in an Instagram video shared by Pat.

In the clip, he sat with his daughter Maggie Sajak.

The two talked about Pat’s legacy on the show and how he came to host the show in the first place.

In the comments, fans gushed over Pat and suggested someone better to take over for him.

Many expressed a desire to see Maggie, 29, take her father’s place.

“Maggie should be host!! Idk who thought Seacrest was a good fit,” one person wrote.

“You are so loved, I think Maggie and Vanna should run the show. That would be awesome,” a second person posted.

“Definitely do not feel they chose the right host if they wanted to keep the show on the air. Very disappointing,” a third person stated.

Pat’s final show is set to air on Friday, June 7.
