Drew Carey has never been someone who has taken himself too seriously. That was shown this last week on The Price is Right when he found himself on the butt end of a joke. However, the comment had him almost falling over laughing as he refused to take himself seriously.

Here is what happened and what Carey said about his own intelligence.

Drew Carey Mocks His Own Intelligence On Price Is Right

The Price is Right saw a contestant named Lillian Brown take the stage after winning her first bid. When Drew saw she was wearing a University of Northwestern shirt, he asked if she graduated from the college. She said she was still there as a third-year PhD student.

This impressed Drew, who admitted that he was kicked out of college more than once. He then asked her what the opposite of a PhD in college was. Lillian couldn’t resist but throwing out a joke, and said the opposite of a PhD was a “talk show host.”

This was a perfect answer, based on Carey’s reaction. He had to brace himself against the upcoming game stand as he started laughing. He then admitted that he is “not smart enough to be a talk show host.” This brought a lot of laughs as the moment ended up very funny for Carey and Lillian.

Carey did go to college at Kent State University. However, his GPA was sub-one, and the university expelled him for his low grades. He signed up for the Marine Corps Reserve and then found his home as a television star, appearing in The Drew Carey Show and hosting Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Carey replaced Bob Barker on The Price is Right in 2007.

Drew Carey’s College Struggles

Drew Carey started college at Kent State University after graduating from high school in 1976. He was part of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, but he was expelled twice for poor academic performance. Carey finally dropped out for good after three years, and that is when he signed up for the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1980.

He worked as a field radio operator in Ohio for the 25th Marine Regiment and finished with the rank of Sergeant (E-5). Carey then started his comedy career in 1985 after David Letterman recommended it.

While Carey couldn’t make it in college at Kent State University, he still received an honorary degree years later. In 2000, Cleveland State University presented Carey with an honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters thanks to his years of work as a comedian and TV star. He was also the keynote speaker at the ceremony.
