Why Pat Sajak Is Leaving the Show

Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak opened up more about his retirement. Before his final episode on Friday, he sat down for an interview with Good Morning America. Sajak looked back at his 40-year career on America’s Game Show.

Good Morning America posted the clip on the official Instagram page. The clip showed a montage of throwback clips of Sajak with Vanna White.

During the 40-minute interview, Maggie Sajak asked her father about his retirement. He feels now is a good time to leave. Pat Sajak then wondered whether he could still host this show after Season 40.

“Yeah, I think I could for a while. There’s also other things in life, we’d like to do,” Pat Sajak said. “I’m enjoying this last year. It’s been a great 40 years. I’m looking forward to whatever is ahead.”

He wants to be satisfied with his retirement. He plans to work on “crossword puzzles and playing with his grandchildren.” Sajak teased his granddaughter about having children. She burst into laughter as she looked at the camera. Aside from his daughter, Maggie, Sajak also shares a son, Patrick, with his wife Lesly Brown.

The emotional interview will be shared throughout the week. Maggie Sajak gets emotional when she talks about her father’s retirement. At the end of the interview, she thanked him for turning the game show into a gift.

“You made what could have been Hangman into a cultural phenomenon, so thank you,” she said. “You’ve had an amazing 40-plus years.”

Pat Sajak hugged his daughter as she wiped away her tears. This week will be emotional for Wheel of Fortune fans. His final episode will air on June 7th. Vanna White will resume as co-host. Ryan Seacrest will start hosting the game show in September 2024, reports Deadline.
