‘It was my whole childhood’: Rupert Grint confirms he would reprise his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise ‘if the timing was right and everyone was coming back’
Rupert Grint has confirmed he would be open to reprising his much-loved role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise.
The actor, 34, bagged the part of the young wizard at the age of just 11, and said he would be prepared to return in some form as long as ‘the timing was right and everyone was coming back’.
Speaking during an appearance on This Morning on Thursday, Rupert admitted he feels ‘protective’ over Ron and would like to see what he is up to now because the role was his ‘whole childhood’.

Phillip asked: ‘You would bring Ron back? You wouldn’t actually be opposed to see what he is up to now?’
Rupert replied: ‘I think if the timing was right and everyone was coming back. It was a character that was important to me, we kind of became the same person.
‘I’m protective of him as well. It was my whole childhood.’
Joking about his lack of acting credentials prior to bagging the role in the film adaptation of the much-loved JK Rowling novel, he added: ‘I was a fish in a school play before that!’

The actor starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), both 32, in the Wizarding World for eight films.
Two decades after first hitting screens, the trio reunited in 2021 as they returned to Hogwarts for the franchises 20th anniversary at the Warner Bros Studios.
Rupert is now starring in a new psychological thriller, Knock At The Cabin – his first film role in eight years – alongside actor Ben Aldridge, who joined him on This Morning.
The pair both admitted they became scared while filming some of the scenes as they were forced to conquer their fears.

Rupert said: ‘This does entangle both of my fears. It was quite stressful!’
Ben admitted: ‘I did enjoy it but it was terrifying. Is it scary doing it? Yes! There are like two different worlds, everyone got on in the cast and it was so joyful, and a little bit like being at theatre camp.
‘But as soon as you walked into that cabin, the temperature would change and you’d get tied to a chair and I would start feeling the fear the characters would be feeling…’
When asked Rupert why he keeps going back to do scary stuff, he smiled, saying: ‘I know! I need to do a Christmas comedy movie or something…’

Working it out: Two decades after first hitting screens, the trio reunited in 2021 as they returned to Hogwarts for the franchises 20th anniversary at the Warner Bros Studios
The pair both have American accents in the new thriller and worked with a coach to perfect them.
Rupert explained: ‘I have done it [before] so I’m getting used to it. You have to be conscious of what you’re doing with your tongue in your mouth when you’re talking, it’s very different.
‘American people have a very different tongue shape in what they do with it, I don’t know! It’s very technical!’
Rupert is now a father of one after welcoming his daughter Wednesday with long-term partner Georgia Groome back in 2020.
