Wynonna Judd Begs Fans to Be “Kinder” While Dedicating Emotional Performance to Her Mom
Wynonna was joined on stage by her sister Ashley to help pay tribute to the icon.
Country music icon Naomi Judd tragically died in April, but her daughter Wynonna is making sure her legacy lives on.
The country music duo was scheduled for a final tour before Naomi’s death, and Wynonna decided to continue in her absence.
She is being joined on stage by her friends and country music stars including Brandi Carlisle, Ashley McBryde, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, and Kelsea Ballerini.
Wynonna told People that she hopes to find comfort in her performances.
She said, “This is my opportunity to step into a situation that I don’t know that I am ready to do what I’m about to do, but I think it’s going to heal me.” She continued, “I want people to know that they’re loved. I want people to know that there is hope.”
Wynonna addressed the crowd in Toledo, Ohio, for the final song of the show. She said, “Let’s try to be kinder to one another. It’s not getting any easier out there. And tonight this one goes out to anyone who’s maybe struggling a little bit to believe.
Been there, done that. Many times. But this next song reminds me that there’s always hope.” The screen behind her paired a video of Wynonna’s emotional performance with footage of her mother singing the same song. Wynonna’s sister Ashley Judd and Brandi Carlisle provided backup vocals.
One fan commented on the video, “Dear Wynonna…thank you for having the strength and courage to continue the The Judds legacy. This song and performance is so healing…honest…and lovingly beautiful.” Another said, “So many of us loved sweet Naomi. I have faced losing my mom. She was my best friend, my rock, my biggest cheerleader and my voice of reason. Sobbing watching this.”
The Judds: The Final Tour continues through the end of October.
