Reba McEntire Fans Divided Over Polarizing ‘Saturday Night Live’ Sketch

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This is especially true on Saturday Night Live. Celebrity impersonations have been a time-honored tradition on the iconic comedy sketch show for every one of its 50 seasons. Unsurprisingly, some catch on better than others. During Saturday’s (Nov. 2) episode, SNL cast member Heidi Gardner donned a red wig and a fake Southern accent to take on the “Queen of Country,” Reba McEntire. And according to social media, the reviews are mixed, to say the least.

Heidi Gardner made her first appearance as Reba McEntire during Saturday’s (Nov. 2) Weekend Update portion. The sketch sees Colin Jost trying to wheedle a political endorsement out of the “Fancy” singer. (Reba has previously made a habit of steering clear of politics.)

Watch below and form your own opinion. One X/Twitter user proclaimed Gardner’s impersonation “disturbingly accurate,” with others calling it “perfect.”

Not everyone was laughing, however. “I guess they can’t all be good… It’s a bad impersonation of Reba (starting w that wig) and it wasn’t remotely funny,” one X/Twitter user wrote. Not sure if it was mean-spirited or just absolutely horribly written.”

Another fan, who hails from Reba’s hometown of McAlester, Oklahoma, wrote that they were “missing the humor in this skit.”

“Signed, fellow born and raised McAlester, Okie,” they wrote.

Which MCU Character Would Reba Play?

In addition to an illustrious country music career, Reba McEntire has also made a name for herself on the silver screen. The three-time Grammy Award winner is currently starring in the NBC sitcom Happy’s Place. And she has indicated that she’s open to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I’d love to do a Marvel comic,” she said. ‘I wanna be like, a female Reba McEntire Power Ranger or something like that in a Marvel movie.”

What would her superpower be? “[Able] to talk to animals,” she said. “Wouldn’t that be fun?”
