On June 15th, 2007, Bob Barker appeared on his last episode of The Price Is Right. Although it was a difficult reality for fans to deal with, given his longevity in this position, Barker felt as though the timing was everything. The late host revealed that the decision to step down was done so given that he was still able to enjoy retirement at the time, especially health wise.

Speaking alongside People, Barker admitted he’d miss his crew and those behind the scenes the most.

“I’m often asked what I loved most about my years with Price, and the first thing that pops to mind is … the money, of course.”

“All kidding aside, there was much to love. I had the pleasure of working with a dedicated and talented cast and crew for 35 great years. Particularly close to my heart was the ability our vast popularity gave me to remind our entire audience daily about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets,” says Barker.

During his final episode of the daytime game show, Barker kept things classy during his final moments and as expected, received a warm ovation from the audience.

He says, “I want to thank you very, very much for you inviting me into your home for the last 50 years. I am deeply grateful, and please remember help control the pet population, have your pets have your pets spayed or neutered. Goodbye, everyone.”

Barker proceeds to stay on the stage as per usual, but is greeted by others during his last episode. The moment can be relived below.

Fans on YouTube were full of praise for Barker and as expected, it was an emotional reality to deal with for many.

“This is the greatest Sign off of all time, was right to the point.”

Another fan went back to the video following Barker’s passing, “I came here immediately after hearing today’s news… What’s worse is that Bob was SO CLOSE to making it to 100 years old. He was just about 4 months shy. Rest in Peace to a True Legend. I believe a more-recent Celebrity Family Feud episode made it the most clear: If there was a Game Show Host Mount Rushmore, Bob would be there right alongside Alex…”

Barker won’t ever be forgotten.

Drew Carey was the chosen one, stepping in for Bob Barker. Credit to Drew for taking on such a gig, especially given Barker’s legacy with the show. Bob gave Drew some wise advice before starting in the position. According to the late host, it was essential that Carey make the game his own version, and not try to copy what Barker had left behind.

Drew discussed Bob’s advice behind the scenes. “I knew I could never be Bob, and I wasn’t going to try to be Bob. Don’t try to copy me. Just make it your own show.'”

Drew Carey was one of the many people to issue a tribute towards Barker. Carey made mention that there is not a day that goes by in which he isn’t grateful for the late host. According to Drew, Bob’s legacy won’t be forgotten about.

“There hasn’t been a day on set that I didn’t think of Bob Barker and thank him,” Carey wrote. “I will carry his memory in my heart forever.”

Sadly, Barker was a year away from 100, passing away in his home at 99.
