VIDEO: Tears, drama and boy band meltdowns as Backstreet Boys reach breaking point

‘I’M NOT AFRAID of you anymore,’ cries Nick Carter as Backstreet Boys hit their lowest point in new documentary Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of

Grievances, grudges and regrets are unleashed in the new film, Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of.

The new, no holds barred documentary charts the heady rise and fall (and rise again) of one of the biggest bands in the world of all time.

The trailer shows tears and drama as they talk about the incredible highs and lows of the last two decades.

It shows them facing old demons as well as planning a new album and their 20th anniversary celebrations and tour.

The band was formed in 1993 and struggled to find success in the US until the self-titled debut album became a huge hit across Europe in 1996.

The rest is history, but nothing lasts forever. As the boys themselves put it,

“From 1999 to 2002 we were the biggest band in the world…

“And then it just stopped.”

Not only did the fab five have to deal with the shocking slump in their success, they discovered that their long-term manager, Lou Pealman, was involved in money laundering and fraud before being jailed for 25 years in 2008.

Financial woes aside, by their own admission the lads also had to face the inevitable reality that hits every teen idol,

“What do you do when you’re a full grown man in a boy band?”

Well, you could always take some comfort from being the best selling boy band of all time (One Direction still have some catching up to do), with sales of over 130 million records and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Not bad for a band who refer to themselves as, “A bunch of dorks jumping around on stage singing and dancing.”

As well as old footage of the boys with big hair and baby faces, the documentary follows the five over the two years they took to make their 2012 album In A World Like This and plan their 20th anniversary.

The film will be released in UK cinemas on February 26, 2015 at 7pm, accompanied by a special live by satellite performance by the band.

Tickets go on sale on January 9. For more information go to www.backstreetboys.com.
