“It’s Unbelievable”: Reba McEntire Refuses to Give Blake Shelton’s Chair Back on The Voice

Reba McEntire is joining The Voice as a Coach in Season 24, and she’s already making herself comfortable.

It’s official: Reba McEntire is making her debut as a Coach on The Voice.

It’s incredibly exciting news, considering McEntire is a music legend. The country singer has sold over 75 million records worldwide, put out hit singles like “Fancy” and “I’m a Survivor,” and even starred in a hit sitcom, Reba.

After it was announced McEntire will be joining The Voice for Season 24, she appeared for The Live Semi-Final Top 8 Performances. Sure, she was there because she served as Season 23’s Mega-Mentor, but it was also an opportunity to make her mark on the show by officially taking Blake Shelton’s chair — temporarily, anyway.

“What’s going on to my left?” Host Carson Daly asked on the Live Show before gesturing to McEntire sitting in Shelton’s iconic chair alongside fellow Season 23 Coaches Chance The Rapper, Niall Horan, and Kelly Clarkson. “The one and only Reba, ladies and gentlemen!”

Daly went on to explain, “Reba is gonna be in this chair next season on The Voice,” an announcement that was met with cheers from the audience.

McEntire, who shone in a sparkling blue top, blazer, and pants, clearly was already comfortable in her seat.

“Where’d Blake go?” Daly asked, to which McEntire joked, “Who cares?”

Daily, who noted McEntire is already a member of The Voice family, asked what she was most looking forward to when she officially becomes a Coach.

“I’m looking forward to being here with you all. You’ve treated me all so nicely and I appreciate the hospitality so much that you’ve shown me … to be able to come in and form my own team, I’m so looking forward to it.”

At this point, Shelton returned to remind us all that while it may be his last season, he’s not done yet.

“You know, I still have a week left in this chair if you don’t mind,” he told her, to which McEntire joked, “No. I like this chair!”

Shelton noted “it’s unbelievable” a superstar like McEntire is joining the Coaches (he even called her “one of the greatest country artists of all time” in an earlier episode), but he refused to give up his chair that easy.

“Reba, you are sitting in my seat. For God’s sake, let me finish the show!” he said, laughing.

The two country icons then shared a meaningful hug, acknowledging that Shelton, who has been with The Voice since Season 1, is soon passing the baton to her. Hopefully, we’ll see more of their friendship in the future!
