Fans blame Price is Right producers for ‘ruining’ Wheel of Fortune as contestants ‘act like fools’

With the latest season of Wheel of Fortune being hosted by Ryan Seacrest for the first time, some fans enjoy the energy while others are a bit skeptical its turning into a different show

The newest season of Wheel of Fortune is airing, and it’s the first one hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

Fans are getting used to the new host after longtime host Pat Sajak retired. While some are enjoying seeing the American Idol host take on the new gig, others aren’t enjoying the “energy” that Ryan is bringing.

One Reddit user compared the energy the show has now to the daytime game show The Price is Right, which is hosted by Drew Carey. They shared their thoughts on the Wheel of Fortune Reddit page.

The post read: “I think the Price Is Right producers got ahold of Wheel and will ruin it, too.”

“Kinda seems like someone is encouraging players to act like complete fools which is going to attract more and more garbage on screen,” the post continued, “It won’t be long and someone will find the need to roll on the floor, just wait.”

In the comments, another Reddit user pointed out that the two shows have shared employees. “Ironically Mike Richards (who ran Price from 2009-19) ran Wheel from 2020 until his termination in 2021,” they said.

Others didn’t mind the “energy” that Ryan and this new season brings. A user wrote: “I think injecting a little energy into it is not a bad thing.”

“I loved Pat. He had a very dry and somewhat corny sensibility,” they continued, “I think that lended the energy to the contestants. I like that Ryan seems excited. Let’s get excited! It’s Wheel of Fortune, not the retirement home quite yet.”

Someone else responded to that message writing: “But look at Jeopardy. They updated the host while leaning into the institution. That’s all I ask.”

But no matter what some Reddit fans think, the premiere of Wheel of Fortune’s latest season, Ryan’s first episode drew 9.63 million total viewers. This was the highest-rated season premiere audience since 2015.

Pat Sajak announced his retirement from the show in June 2023. But even though he’s no longer helping contestants spin the wheel, Pat will be involved behind the scenes as a consultant on the show.
